Yesterday, Pokey Bolton, posted info and pictures of this cool technique that she discovered while coloring on pages from an old book...
I gave it a try, and while the outcome was not the same, I like it! I used pages from an old encyclopedia, and I chose words beginning with the letter "S" - solstice, sonnet, spinach (?), spinning, sponge, songs, sculpture, scroll. To try it again, I may have to get some of the pastels that she recommended - many types/brands reside in my studio, but I won't be concerned about adding to my collection.
Here's the link to her blog with all the directions:

Been a while since I've posted new work, so here we go...
For your viewing pleasure (I hope), here are the photos-
Framed 5x7 collage called "Flames of Nature's Passion 1" - quilted with colored staples, of all things!!! Oh, other elements - cotton/rayon background, silk roving, copper wire on a twig, flower charm ~
My 80th ruana garment ~ dyed sueded rayon with an interesting closure made from novelty fabric and a jade bead!
"Women Having Fun" series piece ~ 7x9 inches, proclaiming "must...buy...shoes"
Update 7/17/06 - *I'm in the process of listing these and other works in my Etsy Shop*

Jam and Jazz Camp tomorrow!
With bass in tow, son leaves for "Jam and Jazz Camp" tomorrow ~
Actually, our church is hosting, so he'll either go with my husband or I when we go to work...we both work there, you know ~
Good for him in many ways...he'll learn to get out of his little rut of playing the same two riffs...one from a "Daf Punk" (?) song, and the other one, the "Peter Gun" theme song...he knows that one from "The Blues Brothers" movie ~
And, at one of his favorite neighborhood hangouts, the three girls living there, all from church, are away for 3 weeks, so I know he's missing them terribly ~
Rock on, Jason...

Painting with Fabric Dyes - Part 4
Photos from last night's class at the art museum! Previously dyed pieces ~ masking tape strips for resist ~
The students painted over their pieces with thickened dyes...we'll have to wait until next week to see the outcome!
I finally figured out how to make a collage in the Picasa program...you just click on the box that says "Collage" - this was followed by a big "DUH" loud enough to stir all living things in this neighborhood...
The piece that looks like it's in 4 sections had just been discharged, using my favorite product of choice: cleanser with bleach - can't wait to see how these turned out...
